Change begins first with a thought, followed by a choice, which becomes an action.
Are you a pro at setting goals, but not quite the master at achieving them yet? You’re not alone. And fortunately, you’re not a lost cause either. Breaking your goals down into a few key elements could be the difference between all talk and all action. One way to remember these key elements is to think of your goals as SMART. Let me explain.
We’re all affected with the ‘Bright Shiny Object’ Syndrome in one way or another. The Information Age that we’re smack in the middle of sometimes offers almost TOO many things to work on. You may find yourself caught in the web of all the bright shiny opportunities you want to take advantage of. The problem is, these distract us, pull away our focus and dilute our efforts. How can you stay focused?
It’s said our purpose here on earth is to create, and I see achievement as simply stepping into our best creations. Whether it be making a million dollars, or making our most delicious batch of cupcakes ever, achievement inspires. It encourages us to keep bettering our best and also excites others to reach for the stars as well. One of the best things I ever did for myself, and my success, was to start keeping a success journal. It’s my secret tool to winning big.
Many studies have shown that persistence, more than talent, is the key to success. If you’re stuck in a rut, or find that your persistence is starting to wane, these three steps will help you to “press on”.
I’d like to tell you a story. It’s about a particular woman, it’s about every person. It’s about me and it’s about you. It is a story about our stories.
You’ve heard that what you focus on expands. But do you realize that your brain loves to collect evidence to support that story you are focused on? Whatever story (and we all have stories) runs through your mind, your brain actually works to collect evidence to support that story exactly.
What does it mean to break out of your comfort zone? It means challenging yourself by reaching outside your normal range of skills and activities. As we all know, leaving the cozy confines of your safety net can be an unsettling experience. It quickens your pulse and induces feelings of anxiety and nervousness. You are leaving a realm where you know exactly what to expect in order to go and face the unexpected. So, how do you break out of your comfort zone? Imagine there’s a door with a huge exit sign hovering over it. Now, in your mind’s eye, turn and face it.
How do you usually make a decision? Do you act impulsively, or overcomplicate? Knowing our personal quirks and decision drivers can help control irrationality and impulsiveness, which can then lead to better decisions in tough situations.
Not many marketing gurus out there talk to you about walking your talk. That said; it’s important to have your image fit what you do. Living your message makes all the difference in attracting clients. Your image is just as important as your marketing message and your claim in the marketplace.
Isn't it true that everyone has a goal? Some may dream of wealth, some of travel, some of dedicating their lives to service others, whatever the goal ... it is human nature to have something to "aim for." If you were asked, "How willing are you to take whatever steps necessary to achieve your personal and/or professional goals?" What would your answer be? Are you willing to change your perceptions, learn new things, and embrace new ideas? Are you willing to grow in order to grasp your brass ring?
One of the guest speakers at Brendan Buchard's 'Expert's Academy' was Brian Tracey. It was a real treat to see this man live, a real inspiration. I wrote down a ton of notes and some things that he said really resonated with me. But one thing that really stuck in my mind was when he said 'you become what you think about most of the time'.
Finding time to set goals for yourself creates two states of mind that can improve your life whether you achieve your objectives or not. They are “awareness” and “flexibility”. Today I’d like to focus on the link between setting goals and “flexibility”.
Owning a small business is one of the best self growth paths I know—after parenting! Some people call this acquiring the entrepreneurial mindset. It pushes us toward examining the personal roadblocks, habits or ways of thinking or doing that are keeping us stuck where we are.
What is your real purpose in life? You may find yourself looking around you and asking “Ok world, I am here, now what?" The first step is deciding who is looking back at you in the mirror. The key to a fulfilling life is attuning to who you truly are.
You've got big dreams. Ideas that are going to take your life in a complete one-eighty degree turn, right? You're raring to go except for one thing - how to get started. Such a life altering goal is going to require some major serious action, right? Or will it? A few small changes may be all you need.
Do you know what you truly desire to accomplish, obtain, or become in life? Not just a vague idea, but what you really want to do? Achieving goals is a step by step process, with making a decision about what to accomplish being just a part of the whole process itself. So how does one select the appropriate goal?
In business, worrying about finances, whether we will have enough clients and make enough money is like a massive fog that can stop us seeing the amazing view. Don't forget to look at the view.
Have you ever had one of those days when you are busy working on your business all day, but at the end of the day you feel like you've accomplished nothing? Do you need some strategies to get your day moving in the right direction?
Let me share with you my three-step process which will make all the difference between your plan just staying a plan and never meeting with success. I call this my Living Business Plan.
Now is the perfect time to make new plans, set new goals and dream BIG! Feel the positive, invigorating energy that surrounds you, this energy helps us let go of the old and stake a claim for the new. Now can also be a time when you ask yourself some important questions, like, “What is my greater purpose in this life? Am I living it? And do my goals and dreams support this purpose?”
In practice building (and getting clients) it seems to be that most self-employed people just hope for the best. They simply keep doing what they've been doing and don't have a strategy for creating the practice they'd be truly and deeply happy with. This is a big mistake in my opinion.
Before the start of a game and during a game its team members get together to huddle, to discuss strategy make a plan and determine execution. Business is not different. A successful business has the proper team assembled to carry out a business plan.
What’s new in your life? Are you one of those exceptionally perky people who make the average person cringe? You know who I mean, the person who has the permanent smile whether it’s morning, noon, or midnight, is high on life, just loves practically everything, and can put a positive spin on anything that life dishes out? Are you the person everyone loves to hate, but secretly envies? Yes, they really do envy you because perky people generally always have new experiences, new ideas, or new adventures seemingly just waiting in the wings. Why? Because you have those attraction principles constantly kicked up into high gear. If you’re not a member of the perky club, here’s a question for you.
Let's face it: being self-employed, our businesses are fundamentally a reflection of every part of us. It's not like working for a corporation where you don't really control the outcome of the business unless you're at the top. Who you and I "are" as people literally affects our businesses, every day, every minute, every second, with every breath.
I had this delusion that there was a finish line in business. I had thought that I would hustle, build my reputation, fill my practice, fill my bank account, and watch it start to go on auto pilot. I've learned there is no such thing as "making it" and that your business is a journey.
The power of intention really works.
Have you ever been stuck on a project and convinced that you’re NOT making excuses? You really feel like you need to do another week of research or think about your plan a little more? I see this happen when a client has an “a-ha” moment, but can’t get around to taking action. Or another client won’t let go of their pet project and gets stuck instead in an obsessive state of revisions and re-revisions. According to Eric Maisel -- a creativity coach based in the Bay Area -- anxiety is most likely the culprit. Become aware of your anxiety triggers.
How do you put more cash in your pockets? Focus on those activities that generate revenue. So what is a revenue-generating activity?
I love the emails, cards, and phone calls from so many of you saying that you want to be fearless. You want to share your story, build the business, leave your spouse, buy the house, or leave the job. But, you're scared. I am too. Read on to discover how I overcome my fear.
When I first started my company, I was on a high. I had left my corporate job, was working for myself and doing what I loved. I stopped going against my own inner current and instead began to swim with it. With each new client, life became easier and much more fun. After a few months, I was totally addicted to my "high". I wasn't prepared for what came next, that inevitable low.
Many people have massive doubt about their ability to do something really big in this world, including myself up until recently. They wonder whether they have what it takes or whether they're "good enough." So what do you do with all the emotions that arise when you take a great big leap of faith and step into your purpose?
As entrepreneurs, we wear many hats, juggle many balls, and any other crazy-busy metaphor you can come up with. You write website copy and ezine articles, work with clients, speaking, design new programs, create a product, hire people, fire people, bookkeeping, professional development... Even when you aren’t doing it all and you have a team, you still have to manage them as well as do the creative work of your business. With all these tasks and things pulling at you, it creates scattered energy. Your energy is here.... and here.... and over here. What you need is focused energy. With focused energy, you get focused results. So how do you keep your energy from being scattered everywhere?
I was asked a really interesting question while being interviewed the other day. How did you know when it was time to make a change in your business?
Sometimes, despite the stellar marketing plans, our "positive thinking", our resolve, our determination and manifesting, we have doubts about whether we can really "do" this. Let's admit it. Sometimes fear steps in anyway, despite our best intentions. The inner doubt begins to take over and we wonder if it's really going to "happen".
Let’s face it. . .the world’s crazy. So how do you get things done, not just any old “things”, but the right things?
Do you have someone that you look up to? Is this someone that you would like to emulate? Someone that you feel has achieved the type of success that you would one day like to achieve? What if that person wanted to take you by the hand and show you the ropes, the steps that he/she took to get where they are? Well, if they did, you'd be mentored. Mentoring is the key to big-time success. The way that shortcuts are learned about, potential mistakes are avoided, and many contacts are made. So how does one find a mentor?
You know the feeling ... you want so much to move forward on a project, but somehow, you just can't budge. Frustration mounts and time passes. Wouldn't you LOVE to step beyond stuck?

After sharing my personal "Video Vision Board" with my more than 10,000 readers last year, I received a lot of comments and questions. One of the ones that stood out the most for me was this one: "Hey Fabienne, just watched the You Tube video. It's awesome. I'm not sure what it is that keeps me from living in the music of possibility. I keep holding myself to something small like "Hoping for another client this month." And here you are on Oprah and making videos with Bono. So cool!! What do I need to drop in order to step in to 'YES' and let go of 'HUH?'."

It’s funny how often I have tricked myself into thinking that I have a certain end result in mind but upon further examination, I notice that I’m really committed to something else. For instance, in the past I’d tell myself that I wanted to create a certain amount of income a month. Yet, month after month I wouldn’t hit my target.

I know what it's like to think that the lifestyle I want is out of reach. Just 10 years ago, I would lie on my bed in my tiny 400-square-foot studio apartment and flip through magazines, wishing I could have the luxurious lifestyles I read about.
You may have a dream of being on Oprah, for example, to share the message only YOU can share, and to give exposure to your book or business. You love the idea of it, you imagine yourself on her yellow leather sofa, talking to her and her live studio audience. You may even be able to feel the warmth of the studio lamps and the nervous feeling you would have in the pit of your stomach. Perhaps what you'll be wearing and what she'll say to you. Your imagination is strong about what it would actually BE like once you're there. And it feels great. But then it all stops. Your imagination shuts down once you try to think about HOW.
Part of what you signed on for when you started a small business was calculated risk-taking and moving outside your comfort zone.
