Confessions of a new solopreneur
By: Lou Bortone
It’s February… My least favorite month. It’s freezing here in Cow Hampshire; It’s bleak; it’s grey. By all accounts I should be miserable. But I’m not! I’m upbeat. I’m positive. I’m optimistic. How is this possible? Am I delirious from cabin fever?
Ahh, yes! Now I remember… I finally made the jump from part-time
freelancer to full-time solopreneur. I work for Me, Inc. (Or is it
LLC?) Whatever. You get the idea. I’m in control of my own destiny.
I make my own hours. I come and go as I please. I tell clients from
Hell to go back there without me! Hey, this is pretty cool!
OK… Before I figure out how I’m going to pay the mortgage this
month, there are a couple of new solopreneur rights of passage I need
to take care of. Here goes…
TO DO LIST:
-
Call former boss and yell the kid expression, You’re not the boss of me!
-
Ask myself for Friday off.
-
Savor that "fresh ink" smell from my new business cards.
-
Take a few minutes just to daydream.
-
RUN (don’t walk) to the mailbox to see if that client check arrived!
-
Get back to work!!!
So, my first few months out on
my own have been a mix of euphoria and panic. I suppose that’s just
about where I should be! Check back soon for more confessions of a new
soloproneur (and to see if I paid the mortgage!)
