Twittering, Twhirling and Twellowing…Oh My!

After a couple of months of spending more time in FaceBook deleting junk messages (invites to classes and groups and time-wasting applications that let me send ice cream to friends) than building relationships , I think I’ve finally figured out one way to make it more fun and less work.

I’ve seen folks adding updates to FaceBook via Twitter, so I thought I’d try it. I didn’t really get it at first. But since Twitter made some changes to their application that let you control who follows you and who you follow (i.e., you can let someone follow you but not follow them, or vice versa), now it’s a breeze — I only see updates from people I’m really interested in hearing from…instead of the noise on my Facebook updates page.

And it’s fun…and made even easier with a little desktop application called Twhirl (thanks to Lou Bortone for showing me how it works). It sits off to the side while I surf in my browser window. I can glance at it to see what’s going on, and quickly jot an update if I like, or I can hide it when I really need to concentrate. No more switching windows, which really gets me distracted!

Of course you can only follow folks who sign up for Twitter, and it can be difficult sometimes to find them! But thanks to a new directory called Twellow, not only is it easier for me to find my friends…they can find me more easily, too! It links directly to your Twitter profile, plus you can add more info that adds to the ways folks can search for you. Thanks to Denise Wakeman of the Blog Squad for that little tip!

Happy Tweeting!
