This is one of the reasons that I’ve included a step on how to tackle your paper piles in my free report - The 7 Key Steps To An Efficient And Organized Office (available from http://www.officeorganizationsuccess.com).

It’s my super-simple two-step system for tackling your paper piles, and it basically goes like this…

1. Sort It - split your paper piles into two separate piles, one for keep and the other for toss. If you think you may need to hang on to it for the future, put it in your keep pile, but if you really know that you don’t want it, toss it! Sometimes we hang on to papers thinking we’ll need to refer back to them again, and when we finally do find them again they’re out-of-date or simply not relevant.

2. Action It - now you have just one pile to work on - the pile that you decided to keep. And there are three actions you can do here:

Act (do whatever it is you need to do with this paper, and then either File it or Toss it)
File (to refer to at a later date)
Toss (perhaps you didn’t need to keep it after all)

This really is just a quick overview to help you tackle your piles of paper. Having a cluttered work space makes for inefficient working, and leaves you feeling overwhelmed. A clear desk, on the other hand, leaves you feeling organized, calm, and inspired!
