Twitter is a fantastic, fun way to build business relationships with some really fascinating solo business owners! Here are 10 tips for getting the most out of your Twitter experience.
- Twitter is about conversation. Don’t just post updates; reply to things other people say that interest you and that you can add something to.
- Talk to others they way you’d want to be talked to; respect the opinions of others.
- Be authentic. Don’t make up stuff just to attract attention or get followers!
- Be tactful, but not to the point of censoring yourself.
- Follow the people who follow you…it’s a respect thing.
- Twitter when you have time…don’t let it consume your business/life.
- Share great information that people can benefit from, such as articles, blog posts, websites and tools. Don’t be afraid to share links to your business as well as others.
- Retweeting is a great way to share with others while complimenting the original Twitterer.
- Share something of yourself online. People will be attracted to exactly who you are!
- Don’t obsess over people who unfollow you. Move on!

Terri
I think you make some great points here. Especially about making it a conversation and a personal one at that.
On the follow people who follow you point, I would ad one caveat to that. Don’t feel you have to follow people if you don’t think there is a fit, there are unfortunately spammers on Twitter. You dont have to follow them and they usually unfollow you after about 24 hours if you dont follow them.

Hi Simon,
Thanks for adding that. I also heard from someone who has gotten spam that sometimes you have to block them, too. I haven’t needed to do that personally (yet!) but it’s good to know your options!
