Can You Ever Be OVER-Organized? You Betcha!

For more years than I care to admit, I’ve been on a quest to finally be completely organized. And just when I think I’ve landed on the perfect system, get it all in place and start working it, something comes along to throw me off track, and soon I find myself back to my old, decidedly UNorganized ways.
Then in the midst of feeling overwhelmed already with way too much on my plate, my trusty old Macintosh laptop decided to die. This necessitated me having to buy a brand new Mac laptop. Now, mind you, getting a new Mac does not upset me one bit, but reloading all my software and getting files moved and so on has taken way more time than I would have liked.
The bright side in all this — besides having a nifty new Mac with a fabulous and fun operating system — has been the opportunity to totally reorganize the way I keep track of files on my computer.
The challenging part of all this is that I discovered I’ve been way over-organizing everything on my computer to the point that I can’t find anything quickly. Oh, I can use the find feature in the OS, but I still have to wade through the many possible items that have similar names or content.
I’ve done the same thing with my email; over-organized to the point of madness and trying to remember where I put what, when. I’ve spent countless minutes, nee, hours, having to use the Find feature just to locate a missing email.
So, yes, I believe you CAN over-organize yourself to the point of not being able to easily find the things you need when you need them. Whether on your computer or with your regular filing system, if you can’t readily remember where you’ve put something you need, you might be way over-organized, too.
I decided that with the new Mac was a new opportunity to better organize my computer working spaces, but to do it in a way that is simple and easier to manage, starting with managing my email.
If you’d like to learn how I’ve simplified and set up my email manager to easily handle the many emails I receive each day, read my blog post, “Managing eMail the Easy Way” at my Inner Success Circle site.

I recently moved from XP to Linux (on the same machine)> Boy was I glad of memoty sticks and external back-up drives. All good for getting rid of redundant stuff though …
