Losing My Focus — and You

If you’ve been in business for yourself for a while you can probably relate and if you’re new to being in business, then there’s a lesson to be learned here.

I’ve been self-employed and online now long enough to have made a lot of mistakes. Lots of ’em. Luckily, I’m the kind of guy who learns from his mistakes. Unfortunately, I sometimes have to make the same mistake over and over a few times before I finally “get it.”

One of the mistakes I’ve made relating to my business has been in losing my focus; forgetting what my business is really all about, what my early intentions were, who my audience is and so on and I’ve certainly paid the price for that.

But I’ve been wondering lately if losing one’s focus could really be chalked up as just a “mistake”? I’ve certainly done a number on myself by berating myself about it, but came to realize that perhaps for me, losing my focus for a while was not such a bad thing.

By losing my focus, I’ve actually gained more focus. And for that reason I don’t think this has been such a bad experience.

Those that are closest to me know how I’ve struggled over the last year or so trying to figure out what I “want to do when I grow up.” I always thought I knew but lately I’ve pretty much floundered around from one notion to the next, all the time while trying to maintain a connection with you, my dear readers.

I’d pretty much forgotten that I’m a SOUL PROPRIETOR and that YOU are too. And if my newsletters and ezines over the last few months have left you confused and wondering what the heck is going on, then join the club. It’s because I’ve been pretty confused myself.

But I’m feeling re-invigorated these days about my business and what it means to be a Soul Proprietor and I’m feeling laser-focused on what my purpose is, and how I can help you be more successful as a Soul Proprietor operating your own business or practice.

To that end I just wrote a new eBook, “The Unconventional Marketing Guidebook for Soul Proprietors” and you can get a gratis copy of that at my brand new website. Have a look at this link: http://soulproprietorcoach.com (The site is still in the evolution stage, so it may not be 100% ready for prime-time.)

In my new eBook (on page 17) I talk about finding your “true north.” I now know what my true north is:

“To help Soul Proprietors get ridiculously clear about the value they bring to their marketplace and how to share their passion with the world.”

And everything I do from here on out will be true to my purpose. I hope you’ll continue on this journey of learning and discovery with me — even if we do take a detour once in a while.
