In the past two weeks, I’ve heard from two people who have decided to close down their coaching businesses and go back into the ‘traditional’ workforce. And I have a feeling that a lot of people are feeling the pinch.  The economy and the way we’re doing business online is changing, and that is resulting in some tougher times for us all.

And that includes me… I had big plans for a large roll-out of a new program later this spring, but realize I had to scale it back a bit to meet the needs of my ideal clients.

But the key to surviving this change to know there are going to be some tumbles along the way, and not be afraid when they come.

It reminds me of my daughters, who were learning to ice skate this weekend. Both my husband and I were sure they were going to hate it. After all, it’s cold and you take a lot of falls as you learn to balance on the blades.

I know I would have quit.

But not them… they were both determined  – no matter how cold they got, no matter how bruised they were getting – to master skating.  Neither whined or cried every time (and I lost count) they fell on the ice. Nor did they ask for help. They pulled themselves up and tried again.

I know sometimes calling it quits is the right thing to do. But if you are determined- really determined – to succeed, then don’t look at things like you are failing. You’re not. You’re learning.

And frankly, I think now is the perfect time to learn, because the days of over-inflated promises of quick 6-figures is gone. You’ll get the opportunity to build and grow your business slowly and successfully, so you won’t have to shut your doors or file for bankruptcy (like some of the high-profile so-called gurus have lately instead of closing down completely).

It’s determination that will bring you success.
