“Stop Working In Your Business and
Start Working On Your Business!
Learn the Secret to Growing Your Company to a
6- and 7-figure Success WITHOUT Employees
OR 90-hour Work Weeks!”
I just spent the last several days interviewing some amazing entrepreneurs. And as different as they all are, they all had two things in common: MONEY AND TIME. Money to live the life of their dreams – taking European vacations, buying homes on the beach, sending their kids to good colleges… and time to enjoy that money.
But it wasn't always like that for them. In fact, at one point they all shared something else in common – working way too hard for way too little money.
(Sound familiar?)
Yes, there was a time when they were so busy with the daily demands of business they didn't have time to do what they were passionate about…and what made the biggest difference to their bottom line.
(You probably know someone like that. Maybe it's even you, so busy playing "catch up" you don't have time to make any money!)
But then something happened. Something that, I'm sorry to say, never happens to the vast majority of business owners.
These five amazing entrepreneurs changed the way they ran their businesses. And when they did, not only did their income skyrocket but they also grew huge, million-dollar businesses!
So what was their secret? I'll tell you in a moment. But first, I want you to ask yourself some hard questions. Do you find yourself:
* Doing your own bookkeeping (and you're not a bookkeeper)?
* Maintaining your own web site (and you're not a web guru)?
* Creating your own marketing materials (and you're not a copywriter,
marketing consultant or graphic designer)?
* Doing your own customer service/scheduling/correspondence, etc. (and
you aren't a virtual assistant)?
* Or doing anything else you could easily outsource?
A lot of people in business for themselves make the mistake of being a one-man or one-woman show. Do you really have to do it all? Not if you REALLY want to make money. Does this sound like you and your business:
* You’re too busy to make money.
* You’re working over 80 hours a week just to get by.
* You start projects that never go anywhere because you don’t have time
to follow through.
* Your family doesn’t recognize you anymore.
* You need help, but you can’t afford to hire anyone.
You’re overwhelmed. Exhausted. Plus you probably realize you're leaving tons of money-making opportunities on the table.
And it’s understandable. You’re doing it all yourself! But it’s not your fault that you think that way. After all, we’ve heard the phrase since we were kids: “If you want something done right, do it yourself.”
(Hmm. Obviously spoken by a true control freak.)
What are you good at? I mean, I’m sure it’s not just one thing, but there may be a handful of things you're great at doing and are also great money – your highest payoff activities. That’s what you should be concentrating on.
But what about the other stuff?
(Ah, now we're getting closer to what those amazing entrepreneurs did to transform their businesses.)
Well, there’s someone else who’s great at that. And that’s what THEY should be concentrating on those activities. And what most entrepreneurs don’t realize is this: it’s OK to pay someone else to do the things you aren’t good at or you don’t have any interest in. Because when you do that, you'll now have more time to focus on your highest payoff activities. Which pays off with more sales. Which translates to more income and more time to spend doing what you love. Make sense?
(By the way, that's EXACTLY what those amazing entrepreneurs did – build fabulous virtual teams.)
“But, Melanie," I can hear you say, "I’m barely getting by as it is. Where would I find the money to hire someone?”
Before I answer that, let me share a little secret with you.
“I Know What You’re Going Through Because at One Time I Was Right Where You Are Now.”
Years ago I had a small, struggling coaching practice I started because I wanted FREEDOM from the day-to-day corporate grind. I mean I had suffered for 10+ years doing what other people wanted and making my bosses wealthy. So why not start my own company doing what I love? Right?
Wrong.
Within a year and a half, I was under so much stress and so overwhelmed I almost collapsed from fatigue. My passion for my work had crumbled. Worse yet, I had transformed into this grumpy, overwhelmed and perpetually exhausted person who had to put a smile on and “be successful” because other people expected it. I made so many “newbie” mistakes it was pitiful. (Talk about learning how to do everything the hard way!)
The final straw was the day I realized that not only was I totally overwhelmed and had no idea how to make money doing what I loved, but also I was rapidly approaching being DEAD BROKE.
I had recently separated from my husband, couldn’t afford to get my own apartment, my credit cards were maxed out, and my life was in a shambles. Desperate, I picked up the phone to ask my Dad to loan me some more money while I figured things out.
My loving dad said, “Sweetheart, maybe you should consider getting a job again.”
Ugh. I can still feel that big, fat pit swelling in my stomach just thinking about it.
But it was the best thing to happen to me. It was exactly what I needed to hear to make a commitment to myself to STOP allowing feeling overwhelmed to control my life and instead to break through the barriers that were getting in my way of money, freedom and ultimate success.
Fast forward to TODAY. I have my own very successful business that generates way over six figures every year (and I did it within 9 months!) I’m working less than I’ve ever worked in my life. I have the money and the time to:
* Travel to amazing places. Last year I spent three uninterrupted weeks in the Mediterranean (Italy, Spain and France) plus I enjoy regular jaunts to Hawaii, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
* Take time off when I want to – in fact, I make a point of taking summers “off” – working only 3-4 days a week while I travel and relax.
* Treat myself to the facials, massages and other personal luxury services I LOVE.
* Buy my dream home in the Los Angeles area.
Most importantly, I have a business I love and that feels effortless.
How did I do it? By doing exactly what I used to do as a corporate project manager – leveraging the power of a team
So I want you to ask yourself this question:
“What Would It Look Like if I Only Did What
I Was Good at and Enjoyed?”
I’ll tell you something. What you focus on grows. So if you are focused on filing, and checking your e-mail, and playing phone tag… you’re not able to grow your business. And you’re letting opportunities slip away.
