Creating an online survey is very simple with a free survey tool such as   www.advancedsurvey.com.  By designing a survey and sending this to your contacts, you can poll targeted groups quickly and in detail while obtaining real time results.

Through online survey tools, you will be able to obtain a wide variety of information that is relevant and useful.  Knowledge is power, and with a survey, you will be able to:
  • Make decisions about the future of your business.
  • Find out what the typical “pain” is of your current and potential clients/customers.
  • Discover current shopping trends of your clients and the public.
  • Obtain feedback from presentations workshops which you facilitate.
  • Research current hobbies and interests of your clients.
  • Implement more, better, and faster tools for communication.
For today’s lesson, you will be building an online survey through www.advancedsurvey.com.  This site offers the ability to develop free surveys from a wide variety of templates or you can build a survey from scratch.

The limitations for free (basic) membership include:

- If you create a free "Basic Account," you can store your data forever provided you access your account at least once every 6 months. If your account becomes inactive, Advanced Survey reserves the right to delete your data.

- Advanced Survey does not offer technical support through the telephone or e-mail for the Basic Account.  They do offer e-mail support for the Advanced Account.

- If the content of the survey is rude, offensive or demeaning, Advanced Survey will remove it without notification.

- With Advanced Survey Basic (free membership,) you must use your own personal or business email account to send the survey invitations. With an Enhanced Account, you can provide your potential survey participants with a link directly into your survey.

Take these simple steps to get started now.

   1. Go to www.advancedsurvey.com

   2. Click on “Create Surveys.”

   3. From this page, click on “Create Your Free Survey Account Now!”

   4. Once you are on this page, you will want to switch from the order form for “Enhanced Survey” to “Basic Survey.”  If you complete the page for the “Enhanced Survey,” your credit card will be required to proceed.

   5. Once you have registered for “Basic Survey,” you will be e-mailed a link with your user name and password.  Once you have entered this link, you will activate your account, and you will be ready to create your first survey.

   6. From this point forward, you will simply follow the instructions for developing your survey.  Below is a sample letter, which you may follow to create a letter of invitation for launching your survey.

Sample Letter:

Dear JoAnne,

I am conducting a short survey to find out what the current and future focus areas are for your business and the types of products and services you feel will best support you during the next year.

I value your feedback, and I would like to ask that you complete the survey and provide me with your honest and objective opinion.  The survey is 7 questions and should take about 3 - 5 minutes of your time.

To access the survey, link to www.advancedsurvey.com.  On the right sidebar, you will find a command that reads “Take a Survey.”  Enter the code number XXXX and you will be ready to complete the questionnaire.

Thanking you in advance for your assistance and insight.

I will be providing the results of the survey for you to review.  Enjoy!

Warmly,
John

Alicia - Good sample letter. Defining the purpose and the expected length are great tips to include in the invite (as well as offering the results). Two tips I would like to offer to help increase the response rate:

Keep subject lines short - 35 characters or less

Subject lines should avoid words that trigger spam filters such as "important message" and "free". Avoid using all caps, exclamation points, or dollar signs as well.

You can find more online survey tips and suggestions at the Zoomerang blog.
