Virtual Teams Articles

rssfeed

Whether you are a “team of one” who is just starting out, or a “team of many” with subcontractors and/or employees helping you to operate your business, chances are you will be working virtually with some of your team members. These factors play a major role in our Team success.

Say what? Sounds like a crazy thing to say, me being a proponent of “hiring your virtual team” and such… isn’t delegation a part of that? I actually have a bit of a different perspective on this.

Much of your business growth depends on finding great people to help, but most of us spend much more time and money choosing and purchasing equipment than preparing the hiring process. But you will not make a more important expenditure than the time, money and effort you spend recruiting the right people. So take the time to first develop a hiring strategy. Here are four key areas to address in your hiring process.

Forget that "loner" image. No matter how "I can do it myself" your philosophy is, you're going to need some help sometime. Here's a quick way for you to identify what you should be doing for your business and what you should find other people to do for you.

Most people are so focused on finding a good VA they don’t even think about learning how to outsource and manage projects virtually. Then they find out the hard way there’s more to it than hiring someone and saying, “Here, do this.” So here are six key tips from my new Action Guide “The Overworked Entrepreneurs Guide to Outsourcing Success” to help you learn how to outsource effectively and happily.

For the past several years as I have built my business, I’ve made sure to surround myself with people who help both my business and myself grow. Whether this is a mastermind, a mentor or a coach, these people propel me forward in a way that I doubt I could do as easily on my own.

Is your "to do" list longer than your arm? Are you so busy taking care of the urgent that you never get to the important? Do you consider the thought of getting some help but then think "I can't afford it" or "No one can do it as well as I can"? If you want to grow your business AND maintain your sanity, there are two things you need to accept.

We all know the importance of hiring a team, I know I don't need to go down that old road again with you (we can't do it all on our own, and who would want to, etc...). The thing is, even though most of us know we need a team to support the growth of our businesses, many of us get stuck knowing who the heck we need to hire in the first place!

Running a business requires wearing many different hats, so it’s easy to lose focus or get overwhelmed. That’s why it’s so important to keep your priorities straight and eliminate extraneous tasks that don’t contribute to your bottom line. It may sound complicated, but it’s actually very simple: delegate, automate, or delete anything that doesn’t require your personal attention.

You are a busy business owner who wears many hats in your business, right? How many hats are you wearing today? Are you the only person who can do all those tasks, wear all those hats? Or is it out of habit that you do? Or maybe you've never considered which of those tasks could be done by someone else. If you were to consider outsourcing, wouldn't you want a pretty good guarantee of what results you could expect?

I’ve been implementing a key strategy that has greatly contributed to the success of my coaching business. It’s not something taught in business school or in most coaching programs. But it is a technique that I emphatically stress to my platinum clients and to anyone who wants to raise their business to the next level. And it is the entrepreneurs who follow this advice who are thriving.

I'm generally not a big reader of business books, as I quite honestly find many of them boring (shh, don't tell!). But for some reason I felt drawn to read Dan Pink's latest book Drive - the book is about motivation and what drives us to do our best work. After reading Dan's book I get it... he has cracked the code of what really motivates us to do our best work. In a nutshell, here is what he says.

If you are in business for yourself, you need a masterful business coach- someone to help you set and reach lofty goals, someone to hold you accountable, someone who will see what you don’t see for yourself, and someone who you respect enough to truly want to be where they are in their lives. In a sea of potential experts, to find the mentor that is right for YOU, ask yourself these 3 essential questions.

Working with a virtual assistant or other professional to help you with some of the routine tasks in your business is a great decision and can free up your time to focus on your income generating activities. But delegate wisely! Don't delegate what you can automate.

How do virtual support professionals - Online Business Managers, Virtual Assistants and the like - prove that we are actually great at what we do and worth hiring? Here are a few ideas.

While many business-owners have difficulty delegating work, at a certain point it becomes necessary to move the business forward. Hiring an assistant can help you run things more efficiently, letting you focus on the big picture as your assistant takes care of administrative tasks. Some companies hire admins to work on-site, but many others are using virtual assistants to take care of tasks like scheduling or invoicing remotely. Here are five signs that you need an assistant.

Finding and keeping the right team is one of the toughest and most important tasks you take on as a business owner or entrepreneur. Yet it doesn't always get all the attention it warrants.

We all need a sounding board, experts on our side, and a safe haven in which to ask for and receive help and advice. Every small business owner, CEO, or entrepreneur (in my opinion) must have a Board of Advisors. The easiest and fastest way to put one together is to join/create a Mastermind Group where each member gets and gives equal doses of advice from the group. Here are Kerri's top ten reasons why you need one.

Here are the top 5 ways a Master Mind can pay off for you. Plus, the #1 “no-no” you must never do when joining a Master Mind.

During an interview I had with Erin Blaskie, The VA Coach she shared some great tips on delegating tasks to Virtual Assistants (VA) effectively that I wanted to pass on to you.

What makes someone a great Online Business Manager? That’s a bit of a loaded question, and of course a big discussion all on it’s own as there are a myriad of things to consider. However one thing I know to be true is this. A good Online Business Manager will present you with solutions and not just options.

Have you heard the saying, "You are as successful as the 5 people closest to you?" Many business owners wonder why they aren't more financially successful or are having a tough time keeping a positive mindset when it comes to growing their business. Ask yourself, Do you have the right "Support Tribe" to champion you and your vision? If not, it's no wonder you are frustrated or feeling alone with your dreams and business vision.

It’s been a fascinating two weeks as I interviewed 18 different internet marketing experts who shared tips on how to maximize your online presence. I think what I found the most interesting was how the expertise of the different speakers weaved together. In the end I discovered consistent references to what it takes to be successful in today’s economy. Let me share some of my highlights of the four online success principle I discovered:

I was talking to a colleague of mine yesterday who was sharing that she loves her Virtual Assistant, but in her words: “the one thing that she won’t do is nag me to get stuff done… I need someone to nag me like my mom does!” Now this may make you chuckle, but it really is a very common complaint that I hear from business owners…

In a previous article, I discussed how hiring the wrong bookkeeper could destroy your business. In this final installment of a 3 part series, I would like to switch gears and tell you how a good bookkeeper can actually help save your hard-earned money. (Part 3 of 3)

How do you know if your bookkeeper is heading your company towards danger? Or worse, if he is helping himself to your hard earned cash? Here are ten warning signs. (Part 2 of 3)

I cringe every time I hear one of those stories. You've probably seen some version of it on the news: a trusted employee (usually dressed in a suit) is hauled away in handcuffs, finally caught after stealing from his company. (Part 1 of a 3 part series)

It’s not in your best interest to think that you can, or should, do all the tasks involved in running, marketing and managing your business. And the key to doing that is to overcome your objections to outsourcing.
