You will benefit greatly from forming a mastermind team specifically dedicated to hold you to your goals.  You will also benefit from considering the experiences of others by reading articles such as this one to save you from as many pitfalls as possible.

To create phenomenal success, you need to create a team of people who move you forward.  From this team of people, it is unpredictable and unimaginable what astounding outcomes can be achieved as long as the people are carefully hand-picked and all are aligned and have synergy so flow is present.

This past year, I created structures for three very different businesses.  As I went through the process of getting ideas and then putting them into action, I discovered, profoundly, the importance of having a mastermind team.  As a solo entrepreneur, I had set very high goals with no clue for how to achieve them.  It was never going to happen without surrounding myself with support structures such as a mastermind team.  In fact, I created four teams before it was over!

Because of my many experiences with mastermind teams in the course of one year, people often ask me to share how to structure and manage the team once it has been created.  As a result I have begun to mentor people in creating and maintaining powerful mastermind teams.

It is important to take some steps to create a team in a way that builds a solid foundation for loyalty and commitment.  Out of four teams I created, two are very much alive.  One has disseminated and one is not meeting regularly but each team member is available for support at any point in time we wish to call upon each other.  To have a solid foundation, your team will need to be formed with some criteria.

Remember that creating a team is different than just having some friends together on a regular basis.  Creating a team is intentional and clear goals are set.  There is organization inside which freedom of thought abounds.  There is exhilaration from having the meeting.

How do you form a criteria for choosing team members?

As for me, I was already in an environment where many people were up to creating something in their lives.  As I would hear someone mention they had a similar goal as mine, I would invite them to be on a team with me.  This is one approach you may choose.

Another important criteria would be for you who forms the team to have a clear structure in mind just to get things moving in a forward direction.  Otherwise, as the team begins to meet, things could go in a completely opposite direction from where you had intended it to go.

A great way to start would be to find one person to begin meeting with.  Together create a plan for what you want to achieve.  Create a criteria for what type person you are looking for and what traits they already demonstrate having.  Then, each of you begin noticing people with the type traits or background you have listed.  Find out if these people have an interest in what you wish to create as a team.  If so, meet with all concerned so everyone can meet.  Until the original two people agree on the third person, no one is invited to join the team.  All of the team members must experience some level of synergy with each other.  Otherwise the team will be short lived.  It is a gradual process.  It is recommended that you have no more than eight people on a team and a minimum of two.

The time tested evidence is you will not achieve your goals alone.  You will need to create a support structure for achieving your goals.  We often step out of the corporate world and take on our own businesses thinking we can work from home, promote ourselves, and succeed with ease.  By having others committed to being part of your structure for moral support or even technical support, form a mastermind team of your own.

Start your homework today by considering what you want to achieve, write it down and start looking around, observing who might be a player who is aligned with your goals.  You may have to step out of your comfort zone and reach up to highly successful people who may be looking for their next venture to create.  Figure out what is in it for them to be on your team.  Do not hesitate to consider these people.  It is worth taking the step up.

It would take many pages to fully explain the dynamics of a powerful mastermind team.  Here are a few tips for you to consider in your search for team mates:

  1. Write down what you wish to achieve, yourself.  This goal may be to have people hold each other accountable.  It may be to create a new business venture together.  It may even be to create a non-profit venture of some sort.  It is important that you clearly know what your own intention is from the beginning.
  2. Begin to attend business meetings where you get to observe the participation of others.  Are they consistent?  Do they move the conversation forward?  Do they have skills that may make a difference for what you wish to create?  Do they express similar goals without having heard yours?  Do they hold themselves accountable to the promises they make?  Do they get things done?
  3. Look for some people who are successful in what you wish to create.  This will bring velocity to your success and theirs as well.
  4. Be sure to include people who are at higher levels of success than you are.  They will be eager to participate when they see your clear intention and your commitment to the intention.

It's okay to go it alone.  You may achieve a few great things alone.  And if you can achieve a few great things alone, imagine what you can achieve with a team of supportive people causing you to have your dreams with more ease and velocity than you ever thought possible.

If you have no failures, redefine your goals.  They may be too small.  It may take time, but the big goals are the ones that get you up bouncing in the mornings like when you were a child.  Remember?
