Most people have strengths and weaknesses, whether in business or in
life. And, most people would say “I’ll work on the weaknesses to
bring them up to par.” Not exactly the best route to go!
Why would you want to focus on a weakness when you know that you have many more strengths that can be expanded and used positively? I know you’ve heard it before and it’s true.
Whatever we focus on tends to expand. By focusing on the things we consider to be our weakest areas we actually dilute our ability to play to those strengths making it more challenging to achieve our goals.
Every area of your life will expand and grow when you
focus on your strong points. I’ve met some wonderful business leaders and one thing that became very clear to me was that they focused on the areas in which they were strongest and delegated their weakest points to others who had those characteristics as their strength. This way everyone wins.
Strengths are any kind of activity that makes you feel
energized, motivated and powerful. These are the things that allow you to
have passion for what you do in life.
Everything is a mindset.
Every result you create in life comes from the way you think. You can, if you choose, get to know the strengths really well and make them even stronger.
Becoming a leader involves being mindful of what you can and can’t do. Leaders usually have powerful ego’s that’s how they become who they are. Having and being powerful is not about control. We all have an ego, it’s not good or bad, it’s about how we choose to use it.
I like to give clients a specific exercise. This serves them by allowing them to change negatives into to positives to enhance their abilities.
Take some paper and draw a line down the center. Head one column -My Strengths and the other column My Weaknesses.
When you’ve completed the list in both columns write down how many times each day you really play to your strengths and how many times you give in to playing to any of the weaknesses.
It’s time to
stop making excuses. Make a decision to
get even stronger in the areas that can serve you well and delegate the others to someone else. Watch how much more productive and effective your days become.
