How do you accomplish a goal when you're overwhelmed,
not sure how to do it, and feel stuck?
That was exactly the situation my mom, Kailash,
found herself in. For months she had been fussing with trying to get
her website re-written. Not being a writer didn't make the project
any easier.
You would think that with having a daughter who
is a marketing writer, she could just turn it over to me to get it
done. Unfortunately, we tried that this past summer but she didn't
like what I wrote (go figure!).
Luckily, that wasn't a problem for my ego. Luckier
still, she decided to join my Success
Circle Coaching Club in September when it first launched.
Now, the power and value of the Success
Circle is how easy it makes it for members to focus, focus, focus.
The main tool they use for that is my Bold Goal system and weekly
accountability email check-in with me.
Being a good student (even though sometimes a difficult
client), my mom decided her 90-day Bold Goal was to "re-launch
her website."
What followed next was nothing short of
a miracle.
She got it done. Not only that, she reached her
Bold Goal in 78 days, not 90! She wrote every word herself and even
included a free 7-part mini audio retreat as part of the launch.
Granted, she complained a lot during the process
(remember, she is sooo NOT a writer, so who wouldn't complain a bit?!).
But when I asked her what made the difference for her in finally getting
this project done—and in record time—she had these five
tips to share:
Tip #1 Decide that there is NO choice-this
WILL get done!
Determination is a powerful motivator! Think of this as making a stand.
If you can be a stand for your project's completion, you can get it
done. Kailash often said, "I am a stand for getting my website
done!"
Tip #2 Write out every step involved with your own
Bold Goal, including who will support you
She told me her Bold Goal list felt "like a shopping list."
It told her exactly which step to do and when.
Tip #3 Get help with the tasks you're not familiar
with
My mom sprang for hiring an editor to polish up her writing, an interviewer
to make the audio mini-retreat, and an audio editor to finalize each
audio gem. The total cost was a few hundred dollars but she swears
it was worth every penny!
Tip #4 Stay true to your vision and heart
She was determined not to let someone else dilute or modify her message
(even me!). Standing so firmly by her message gave her strength and
determination to plow ahead, even when it was tough going.
Tip #5 Schedule time for each step in your calendar
Kailash had lots of places in her calendar where it simply said, "work
on website." She kept those appointments with herself, no matter
what. She even got up at midnight to write down her ideas when inspired!
When she started the Bold Goal system, she said
to me, "I feel like the 'stuck' plug got pulled." What I
noticed is that even when she was struggling with this project, she
kept finding ways to make it work.
Kailash's core branding message is to "say
'yes' to herself no matter what." Sounds to me like she did exactly
that with this project.
Now it's your turn! What is a project
that you have hanging around that it's now time to get unstuck? Make
it your Bold Goal (you're welcome to join the Success
Circle for support), follow Kailash's inspiring tips, and I bet
you too, will soon be crowing with success!
