Over the past several months, I have been working on my 2013 Career, Business and Life Plan. There were some things that I wanted to do differently and more frequently this year. I also want to make sure that I was well fueled for success in career, business and life. So here are my top 3 tips that I feel will lead to greatness:
1. SCHEDULE TIME. Set aside time regularly to be quiet and reflect. We live in such a fast-paced time. From the moment we awake to the moment we go to sleep, we are going at full speed and we never seem to slow down.
I have learned to schedule time every day to be quiet and reflect. Shouldn’t you schedule time on your calendar to be quiet and reflect?
2. GIVE MORE. Be generous toward those with less and not envious of those with more. Many of use tend to look at others who may be wealthier than we are and think, “I sure wish I had what he or she has.” I have discovered that kind of thinking breeds envy and jealousy rather than contentment and self assurance.
One of the best ways to break the envy cycle is to be more generous to those who are less fortunate. Why not volunteer at a food bank, and not just during the holidays—everybody works there then—but on a regular basis during the year. That will surely remind you of how good you really have it.
How do I know that: well I volunteered at a food pantry once a week for three years? It changed my whole life!
3. EXPRESS OFTEN. Lastly, tell those you love how thankful you are for having them in your life. So many times we neglect to take the time to craft the words to express to those closest to us what their presence means to us.
I have made it a practice to let my family, friends, business associates and team know just how much they mean to me. It’s the best!
So let me start by thanking my Virtual Assistant, Jordan for always being there and for doing such a great job!
So, why not start this year by taking some time each day to think of one or two things you have – that you typically take for granted, and then take a moment and give thanks for those things. In fact, why not make it a part of your reflection time to review a list of things that you are thankful for at least once a month.
So, for me, I plan to be more aware of the many great gifts that I have each and every day of this year – especially my Top 3 Tips that Lead to Greatness.© Copyright 2013 Laureen Wishom
