  I recall one of my best coaching sessions back in 2002.  I was just starting out as a business coach, but had a 2 &frac12; week vacation planned.  I had a new client, but wasn&rsquo;t going to be able to speak to her until after I returned.  Much to my surprise, when I returned, my client wanted to talk to me about my vacation!  You see, she was a small business owner who hadn&rsquo;t taken a vacation in a looooong time.  And&hellip; the thought of taking a vacation boggled her mind.  Imagine that?!       It became apparent that her small business had become a &lsquo;job.&rsquo;  She wanted to take a break to re-evaluate her options.  Should she sell her business, shut it down or do something else? After our chat, she decided to take 3 weeks off.  She used one week to complete unfinished projects; one week to work on her business; and one week to vacation somewhere warm and sunny!     It was exactly what the doctor ordered...she came back from vacation re-charged, with passion and enthusiasm for her business.   In fact, she was so gung ho that we finished her coaching sessions early!  I bet Carolyn is still out there today and doing well!     Every Solo Entrepreneur needs time to kick back and relax.  This weekend is Labor Day in the U.S. and Canada, a day of rest in honor of our hard-working ancestors. So take the day off...heck, take the week off if you can. If not now, plan it for later.   This week I had to explain to my husband, again, the difference between being self-employed and being a solo entrepreneur -- a solo business owner. In my mind, someone who is self-employed works for other people -- a contractor, who does it all themselves. A solo entrepreneur, on the other hand, is building a business, and hires others to do the work  (The Overworked Entrepreneurs Guide to Outsourcing Success) she isn't quite as thrilled about doing :)      Being a solo entrepreneur is a wonderful, freeing experience. You get to do the work you love...the work you are meant to do in the world, and you find partners who like to do the stuff you don't like...coincidentally, the work THEY are meant to do in the world.   Ok, I admit it. I'm a Bejeweled Blitz addict. For those who haven't tried it, BB is a game where you match sets of three or more alike jewels in a row. The sets then disappear (poof!) and new jewels appear. It's great for those moments (ok, sometimes longer than that!) when you need some mindless down-time. At least it works for me!      I noticed something on BB the other day. Sometimes, just as you match a set of jewels and let go, you'll see another, higher-point match that you *could* have done instead. Alas, the opportunity fades away as everything re-aligns. Now you might get bummed, and lose concentration (it's a timed game, so staying focused is key!) Or, you can just keep going. And what I noticed is that if you just ignore that seemingly "lost" opportunity to make a certain match -- suddenly, another, sometimes better match arises that you couldn't have foreseen.       And so it is in business. When an opportunity passes us by, we can let it derail us -- or we can let it go, move on, and look for the next opportunity. I guarantee that the opportunities will keep coming...some, even better than the one we let "get away."
