So what is Work-Life Balance?  Very Simple – it is the idea that one’s life outside of work is just as important as one’s working life and that the time a person spends working should be balanced by the time spent doing things such as: spending time with family and friends; staying healthy and fit, enjoying hobbies, traveling, and just relaxing.

Below are four things that you can do that will help you have more of a balance between running your business and doing what is expected of you from family and friends.

1) Learn how to delegate and do more of it. There are so many things to do when you’re running a small business; it’s easy to deceive yourself in believing that you need to do all of them yourself.

Many small business owners make the mistake of confusing running the show with performing the entire show. Are you managing your business or are you feeling tire, frazzled and harassed because your business is managing you and you have no time to do anything else!

Delegation is the key to a healthy work-life balance!

2) Make business, family and ‘me’ time a weekly event. Planning is vital if you want a healthy, thriving business. When you take time to plan, you are able to assess what worked and what doesn’t; you are refreshed so that you can set new directions; you can plan for the future and you have time to plan for big things in your business and life.

Make it a habit to set aside time each week to review, adjust, and plan forward – or even better, make planning part of each day. Not only will this help you avoid costly mistakes and stay on track, but you’ll feel more focused and relaxed.

Planning is the key to a healthy work-life balance!

3) Set realistic intentions (goals). This is a valuable habit to have especially if your intentions lead to success rather than distress. When you set your intentions, set those that will stretch you but also are achievable as opposed to unrealistic pipe dreams that are so far out of reach they only lead to frustration and disappointment.

Setting your intentions (goals) is the first step to the formula for achieving your desired outcomes (success).

Goal + Action = Success

Setting intentions is the key to a healthy work-life balance!

4) Drop what’s not working for you and move on. All products aren’t going to be super sellers; all sales methods aren’t going to work for everyone whose part of your target audience; all services that you offer will not work for everyone in your niche; and all suppliers or contractors aren’t going to be ideally suited for your business

If a technique or a product or a business relationship isn’t working for you, stop using it. Stop investing a lot of time, energy and money into trying to make the unworkable workable. Its time to move on! Open your eyes – something better will turn up.

Moving on is the key to a healthy work-life balance!

Achieving a healthy work-life balance is like maintaining a good relationship; you have to keep working on it. But if you apply the above four principles throughout the year, you will achieve work-life balance.
