Many of the 10 strategies below may not be new to you — but accomplishing them may be; especially if you want to reach a whole new level of you, grow your company and achieve success.

As you read this list, do not get overwhelmed. You don’t need to do all of them at the same time – just those that you can:

1. Networking

  • Get to know five new people in your professional arena each week
  • Become a resource for others
  • Give out 25 business cards a week
  • Volunteer at a non-profit organization or support a worthy cause

2. Referrals

  • Let clients know you have space for more new clients
  • Develop a referral system and offer incentives for referrals
  • Follow-up with people within 48 hours
  • Send handwritten thank you notes for referrals
  • Refer others to your circle of influence

3. Speaking and Seminars

  • Initially start by speaking for free to build your expertise, platform and presence
  • Collect business cards whenever you speak by making a special offer
  • Develop a good quality one-sheet that lists your speaking topics
  • Create tele-seminars and webinars based on your speaking topics
  • Create an audio and video series
  • Be a guest on other tele-seminars and blog talk radio shows
  • Facilitate a virtual retreat, mastermind or summit

4. Website and the Social Media

  • Create a website with lots of valuable content and freebies
  • Cross link with other websites from cross-promotional venues
  • Make your website about your clients and not about you
  • Develop a social media presence and use it to build your platform
  • Build links in all your documents that point to your website or blog

5. Newsletter and Articles

  • Start a free e-zine, tip sheet or newsletter
  • Write a column for a local newspaper or blog several times a week
  • Prepare a white paper, special report or manifesto based on your expertise
  • Position yourself as a problem solver or a ‘Solutionist’
  • Submit articles to online directories

6. Marketing and Selling

  • Learn the ‘new economy’ selling tools and skills
  • Present the value you offer first and the benefits second
  • Reframe ‘closing the sale’ to ‘opening a relationship’
  • Commit to performing marketing tasks on a daily basis
  • Develop ways to attract clients versus pushing hard to make sales
  • Invest in your business (equipment, marketing materials, attending conferences just to name a few)

7. Media and Public Relations

  • Get your events in the local newspaper
  • Become well-known by local leaders
  • Develop a media kit and press kit (be sure you know the difference)
  • Do something to attract the media
  • Get quoted in various publications as an ‘expert’
  • Create a ‘press room’ on your website
  • Become a guest on radio, TV shows and Blog Talk

8. Personal Development

  • Set up systems
  • Raise your standards and focus on creating a ‘red carpet’ brand
  • Eliminate those energy drainers
  • Stop procrastinating and place your emphasis on productivity
  • Subscribe to publications and read books in your area of expertise as well as those outside your area of expertise

9. Be Creative

  • Become someone worth knowing
  • Create products and services that separate you from the masses
  • Develop a signature look and style that separates you from your competition

10. Remaining Memorable

  • Develop a compelling story
  • Create a catchy slogan or tagline
  • Develop your “wow” factor
