Time success can be elusive – and especially so the bigger the project and the busier you get.  Do you know that feeling?  Sometimes it’s hard to keep moving when deadlines loom and demands seem to be coming in from every direction!

Well, your time success is important to me.  So,  in my last post, I encouraged you to consider teaming up with an accountability buddy for daunting projects.

Today, I’d like to build on that and share three of the most important keys to making the buddy system work.

1.  Time Success Means Keeping Consistent!

Yes, there’s nothing like follow-through to ensure that you meet your goal. And it’s the daily regularity of connecting with your Accountability Buddy to report on your progress that puts your tasks front and center.

2. Tailor Your Agreement to Your Needs and Strengths to Ensure Your Time Success.

I recommended daily check-ins, as they provide a high degree of consistency. But it’s vital to your time success that you create just the structure that works best for you both.

When you think about the frequency of your check-ins, factor in your personality, what your need, and what you both will find to be most helpful.  Also take care to schedule your check-in at a time that works well for the two of you.

3. Remain Self-Referenced.

Although you are giving and receiving support, ultimately you are committing to yourself and your personal time success. Your partner is a supportive background presence, but you are your main focus.

This isn’t selfish – it’s about taking responsibility for yourself and your time success! By establishing accountability in a challenging area, you move beyond old patterns of avoidance.

BONUS KEYS FOR TIME SUCCESS:  Validation and Appreciation

  • It’s important to acknowledge just how notable it is that you are establishing a new path. So validate yourself!
  • Express appreciation to your accountability buddy without empowering her. This promotes an even-handed and relaxed way of relating.
