In a previous article I explored how living in abundant time enriches you. Today, I’ll share 3 additional keys to help you harvest this abundance!
1. ENGAGING fulfills you, acquiring depletes you!
It’s all a matter of perspective. As you shift your goal from acquiring to engaging, you will feel your vitality AND your sense of time expand! Here’s an example:
You must meet with people you don’t know well. Perhaps they might help advance your career. You nervously wonder if you have what they’re looking for. If only you had more time to prepare! Your energy starts to drop. Then, you remind yourself; you’ll manage well enough regardless, AND you have an idea you’d love to share with them. Suddenly, your energy and enthusiasm return! As you relax, you enter into spacious time.
What created this turnaround? You rediscovered your inner abundance! You moved from a scarcity perspective – anxious to acquire something – to abundance. You remembered that you had something you wished to OFFER!
When you are in touch with the abundance perspective, you throw your entire self into what you are doing in the moment – unconditionally. And that desire to participate fully in life AS IT NOW IS opens your heart and your mind. You are far more likely to feel contented at the end of a day of open-handed involvement.
2. Your understanding of time links to how you live in your body.
It’s remarkable. A cramped body can narrow your perceptions. Tension, shallow breathing and constriction can create a sense of urgency. And when your body is well stretched and humming with vitality, it’s easier to enter SPACIOUS time!
So celebrate the ever-present miracle of your body unfolding. It needn’t take long! Here is a simple, potent exercise to enrich your awareness of the moment in any undisturbed location:
“Grow Long Arms”: Whether seated or standing, simply stretch out your arms to either side. See how moment by moment, your arms reach further … and further. Now relax, and bring your awareness within. Notice how exploring this outer space has increased your sense of INNER spaciousness, too. As you oxygenate your body and stretch your muscles, a new calmness and relaxed appreciation of time suffuses your being.
3. CURIOSITY kindles.
How do you act when an unfamiliar challenge pops up? It’s easy to brace yourself! But tensing your body also inhibits your creativity. Fear rigidifies options, creating a simplistic either/or scarcity mentality. It’s harder to prioritize, and harder to keep to a healthy schedule when fear takes the driver’s seat. This natural tendency can be overcome with another natural impulse – curiosity!
As one of the great antidotes to fear, curiosity provides the perfect climate for learning. You stop focusing self-consciously on the you-who-doesn’t-know, and grow into the you-who-is-eager-to-figure-it-out.
Any time you notice yourself apprehensively thinking, ” What if …?“, try replacing that with ” I wonder what …?”
It feels SO much better! And you are in a superior position to chart out your time, and to ride the new wave of change.
What are some of the common threads of enjoying abundant time?
* Well, appreciation is one.
* Self-reference (and the self-trust that follows) is another.
* And realistic acceptance of limits and challenges is an
