The best way to market yourself online is to showcase your expertise by giving away solid content for free.
That’s the truth, right?
Yes it IS true that content marketing is a fabulous way (especially for experts) to market themselves online. The problem is, the Internet is a pretty big place. And there are a lot of experts using content marketing to market themselves.
And your message may be getting lost in the mix.
But it’s a bit worse than that actually. Because so many folks are using content marketing — there’s a massive glut of pretty mediocre content out there, which brings down the effectiveness of content marketing altogether.
So, what should you do? Throw in the towel? Find another way to market yourself? Shun the Internet altogether and move to a hut on a deserted island?
My own belief is content marketing still works and can still work very well. BUT you need to up your game.
Don’t just slap content together and get it out. Take some time with it. (Or have your writer spend more time with it if you’re outsourcing it.) Look for a different angle that hasn’t been explored before. Do something more entertaining. Try a different format. Dig deeper.
