The holiday season offers an abundance of opportunities to enjoy decadent foods, while providing a ready-made excuse not to exercise, or the no time factor for one’s self because you are so busy taking advantage of the great sales and the obvious hustle and bustle of the holiday season.
To a certain extent, I think we all are a bit of a holiday junkie. We love to eat, laugh and be merry. Here are three more tips (be sure to read part 1) for taking better care of you during the holiday – especially for those who are a holiday junkie!
1. Stay Hydrated. Keep your water bottle with you at all times. It will keep you hydrated and keep you ‘full’ without all the alcohol and other holiday beverages.
2. Converse With Others. Spend time with the people you care about by engaging in fun-loving conversations that reduce the stress – this will also keep you away from the buffet table.
3. Get Plenty of Sleep. Not getting enough sleep can have a significant impact on your health, such as deprivation which can contribute to weight gain, causing brain fog, and lowering your immunity which makes you more vulnerable to sickness.
One of my clients shared this with me last year – it is an awesome idea. She said: “My husband and I forego buying gifts for each other and instead we adopt a family for the holidays. The family provides us with a wish list, which we receive early in the season.
We have greatly enjoyed shopping for the items on our adopted family’s list. Imagine their surprise when they receive the items they hoped for. It takes the pressure off holiday shopping because we avoid the agonizing chore of buying one another useless gadgets year in and year out.
We enjoy our new tradition much more than our old gift exchanges.”
Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays!
