Success is a loaded word for many people. For some it puts a smile on their face, for others who don’t feel so successful, it doesn’t always sound so good.

If you haven’t reached the level of success you want yet, perhaps you’re looking at success from someone else’s point of view.

Success means different things to different people and you have your own definition of success and THAT is what you should be striving for. (Not the first time you’ve heard that either, is it?)

And if you’re beating yourself up because you haven’t “made it” there yet, please be a little more gentle with yourself. I’m the champion when it comes to beating myself up for all the many things I haven’t accomplished yet. Funny how I can never seem to remember all the many things that I HAVE accomplished. Sheesh!

So, how about you? Are you being gentle with yourself? Are you happy with where you are at this stage of your life? Still wanting to grow? Been there, done that, now ready to move on? Share! Share! (Please comment below.)

Funny that you should post this. I have be planning all this week for my next blog post a series on “When Life Happens on the Road to Success”. There are a lot of things that happen to us on the way to success. I believe we may have nothing at all to do with the happenings, but we can influence how they affect us. Life will get in the way of our best intentions. Death of a parent, sudden worldwide economic upheaval, spouse illness, defection of a child, and many other things completely beyond our control.

The secret to having a successful life isn’t an absence of those calamities, it is what you do when they happen. The happening may cause you to come up just short of your goals or necessitate a slight change in plans. In the mean time they should also be doing a work in you. Creating in you a resolve to look beyond the obstacle and refine the plan to match the new person you are becoming.

Success isn’t just achievement. It is also improvement. Failure is to gain nothing from all that took place.

You may come up just short of your goal because of some thing that happened beyond your control, but you can be significantly better for the journey.
