Everything is a little brighter after the rain.
The colors sharper, the air more crisp.
My friend sent me a photograph, 3 weeks after the dreadful forest fires that spread across the carmel, flowers are beginning to bud and signs of rebirth are appearing.
I’m sitting on a bus with the company that I am about to do a workshop with.
Spirits are high, I’m not sure it’s possible to climb up the steep steps of a large tour bus without being brought back to the stories of school trips and riotous youth movement days out.
One of my first experiences of this country was touring it in a bus like this (minus the comfort and air conditioning of course!).
Just packing a bag and climbing those steps puts everyone in the mood for adventure.
We shed our corporate mask and become the real person, just happy to be out!
It also reminds me of those years when I moved countries and houses all the time!
In the first seven years of my marriage we lived in 7 homes.
We didn’t plan it that way, but it worked out like that. It was a time of enormous economic growth living in Ireland in those years and nobody wanted to lose out by having the same tenant stay to long.
They could find more tenants easily, hike up the prices, and we were back looking for a place to live.
Finally, the time came for us to buy our first home.
We began the process of gathering together all our worldly possessions.
There were wedding gifts that had never been taken out of their boxes but stored away; and lots of boxes of old clothes, books and what my grandmother used to call ‘nic-nacks’ or ‘bits and pieces’.
They had been stored in friends’ attics and basements, they had almost been forgotten.
But once we had our home, it was time to gather it all, and undertake the task of sorting through, finding a place for each item. And wondering why on earth we had bothered to keep some of this stuff in the first place!
It was during this time that I made an amazing discovery.
I opened box after box of books of stories; folklore, fairytales, mythology and lots more.
It seems that I had been collecting stories since long before I even realized I was a storyteller.
The truth is that there are so many signs from my life, pieces that fall together that make sense of what I do right now.
And it’s the same for you.
When you start telling the stories of those moments, discover the signs that are hidden in your life experiences, so many things become clear.
It is these stories that give clear direction as to what business you should be in, who you can help and what will be meaningful work for you.
And it’s not just about what will feel right to you, you’ll also be really good at it and love to spend you energy in this way.
So many business owners and entrepreneurs are great at what they do and yet they struggle with how to express it, how to speak clearly and eloquently about their great talents and passions.
Your stories are the key.
When you tell your stories that are relevant and focused on what you do, not only does it become easy and fun to market your business but you start attracting your ideal clients.
