Last week, I discussed the basics of creating a strategy and plan for your marketing efforts in 2011. Today I want to expand more on creating your plan.
Before you decide on what marketing tactics and strategies you’ll be doing, you have to first decide what you want to promote. Although this seems obvious, I know many a coach and consultant who don’t have any idea how they are going to make money from one month to the next. So how do you know what you should be promoting? Well, that’s based on your business goals for the year, but they should include:
- growing your list
- increasing revenue
- creating more brand awareness
Once you know what your business goals are and the strategies you’ll need to meet those goals, then start planning your marketing.
Essentially you’re creating the road map to get to that goal. I know, I know. Many of you don’t like to have road maps, you want to explore and see what comes up. And that can be part of your plan… but trust me, you must, MUST, have a plan if you really want to meet your goals.
Here’s essentially how I do it. Let’s use the example of growing a subscriber list, since it’s something most of us can relate to.
The goal: increase subscribers by 1200 people in 2011. (Yes, I’m using easy math here!) I break down the goal into a quarterly goal, which means I’m looking at increasing my list by 300 each quarter.
So I begin to map out the quarter by deciding what strategies I will be using to reach that goal in the 1st quarter:
- 2 free teleseminars hosted by others (Expected goal: 180 new subscribers)
- Article marketing (Expected goal: 20 new subscribers)
- Give away new special report (Expected goal: 70 new subscribers)
- Social media reminders about ezine (Expected goal: 30 new subscribers)
What comes next? You’ll have to wait until the next post!
