It’s not a race. But does your life sometimes feel like one?
How often do you get home on Friday evening feeling drained and breathless, like you’ve just finished a road race?
Or, during your week, do you hold onto Friday like it’s the finish line for your personal marathon? The light at the end of a tunnel?
Maybe you race through your week feeling like it’s not until Friday evening that you can find time to stop and take a breath?
For the vast majority of us, I think this is generally the case. And if your schedule is different – say you work weekends – your “Friday” may be Sunday or Monday – but the pattern is much the same.
We race through our fast-paced lives, with no relief until we skid into home plate on Friday night!
That Friday Feeling
So, what if you could give yourself that feeling more often? What if you didn’t have to hang on and hold your breath through a whole week before coming up for air?
You can do it! You can create little islands of that for yourself throughout your week. It requires discipline and focus, AND it’s very, very doable. What is required is simply slowing down. Okay, maybe it isn’t THAT simple.
But it’s definitely doable. In my post titled Slow Down and Breathe to Reclaim Your Energy and Your Time, I share some practical tips for how you can give these gifts to yourself every single day.
On some level, it doesn’t matter if you slow down for 30-seconds or 30-minutes. Simply making the choice to give yourself this gift means that you are in charge.
And while making time to breathe and relax may feel like the ultimate luxury, it is entirely practical … much more practical than pushing yourself to exhaustion.
Taking time to slow down may seem counterintuitive when you are stressed. But believe me: When you develop these 3 skills, you can put yourself back on track … and bring positive energy and focus to whatever you need to do in your life.
Yes, you can…
Try creating some Friday’s for yourself as your week unfolds. Start today and enjoy the benefits.
